Welcome to Heyworth Elementary School. I'm proud to say I just finished up my 15th year as principal of our PK-6th grade building. I am honored to be principal in a school that houses over 550 students each school year. I also have the opportunity to work with an amazing staff that genuinely cares about our children and provides a culture that is unique in meeting the learning needs of each individual student. We focus on family first and believe in promoting parent involvement throughout the school. We have wonderful families that value education and contribute to the successful learning environment. And.... the community of Heyworth supports us 100%. It's such a neat place to live. At Heyworth Elementary we say "It's a GREAT DAY to be a HORNET!
I would like to mention some of the activities and programs that we have in place that make our school quite special and one of a kind. To start we have a wonderful early childhood program that offers educational opportunities for pre-kindergarten students ages 3-5; including a tuition-based component and extended day options. In grades K-4, our classrooms are self-contained and students benefit from having one teacher that is only focused on them throughout the day. In grades 5-6, students begin switching classes and rotate in a departmentalized setting, preparing them for junior high. In addition, students are offered music, art, physical education and technology classes. We also provide Response To Intervention (RTI) services for all students at both ends of the learning spectrum and present a school-wide behavioral program called PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support.) A Before/After School Program is in place for families that are in need of daycare services. We also have an incredible Parent/Teacher organization called HOPE.
In closing, please know our doors are always open and if you should ever have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us. And to new families to our district, we would be happy to give you a tour as well!
