Dear Students, Staff, and Families,

Welcome Back to the 2018-2019 school year! I am really excited about the upcoming school year and some of the changes taking place within our district. The District’s Mission is to prepare all students for success, and we are committed to continually finding creative ways to do so. I want to share with you some of our accomplishments from last year and inform you about upcoming projects. Some highlights include:

  • Ended fiscal year 2018 with over a $500k surplus, which is three years in a row of surplus spending
  • Secured over $150,000 in grant funds for pre-kindergarten program
  • Hired 4 new teachers: April Tuten (HS Math), Derek Logue (HS PE & Driver Ed), Marie Alexander (Elementary Special Education), and Emily Haynes (First Grade)
  • Shared superintendent’s updates on a quarterly basis using Leadership, Learning, and Love Newsletter
  • Published our new website and videos which can be located at www.husd4.org
  • Submitting district updates via The Heyworth Buzz
  • Continuing to increase enrollment in Bloomington Area Career Center and also dual credit courses
  • Partnering with Sting to build a new storage facility at the football stadium
  • Implementing LEAP (Learning Enrichment Activities Program) at the elementary school
  • Adopting a 10 year Master Plan for Facilities (summary on website and a Facebook link coming soon)

As you can see, we had a very busy year and could not have done this without the support of our staff and community. Please be sure to register your students online immediately if you have not done so already. The first day back for staff is August 14th, and students’ first day of school is a full day on August 16th! It continues to be my personal goal to establish a caring environment that is challenging yet rewarding for all students and staff; I am confident we have the right people in place to make this happen!

Sincerely,

Lisa M. Taylor, Superintendent of Schools
