Enrichment

Learning Enrichment Activities Program (LEAP)

The LEAP Lab is a room that is designed for all students to learn, collaborate, imagine, create and problem-solve.  Students are encouraged to pursue their individual interests and passions in this room, as well as receive the opportunity to be exposed to different types of technology and physical materials that will allow them to be creative and innovative as they explore the answers to their meaningful questions.

The LEAP Lab lessons and opportunities are mostly comprised of components from the STEAM and Makerspace methods of learning.  STEAM lessons are mostly taught in a whole-group setting where all students are learning about the same topic in conjunction with a hands-on activity.  Makerspace time is when students can gravitate toward the topics and/or skills that interest them individually.  It is also a place where students can invent, explore, and find information and solutions through their own process instead of immediately resorting to the internet for answers.  Students are introduced to new types of technology and skill sets during Makerspace time.  After exposure, students can choose which method they are most interseted in and best supports their project direction.  Makerspace time is mainly self-guided, with student-generated goals and purposes in mind.

 Proficient and Accelerated Learners (PALS)

The LEAP Lab is also a place for the PALS (Proficient and Accelerated Learning Students) program.  These students receive additional enrichment throughout the school year, to continue challenging them, and to ensure that these students are learning at an appropriate pace.
